Core Business

Edamame

In 2012, following ANJ’s decision to streamline its core activities to focus on agribusiness (oil palm, food (sago), and renewable energy), the management decided to gradually exit the tobacco business and concentrate on higher-value agricultural products.

ANJ had operated in the vegetable sector since 2015, when our subsidiary, PT Gading Mas Indonesia Teguh (GMIT), began cultivating edamame, a high-protein, antioxidant-rich legume belonging to the soybean family. We use a cooperation model, providing agronomic inputs, training, and field support to local farmers in Jember, East Java, to maintain and improve quality and yield. In 2020 we began field trials for okra, another high-value vegetable. ANJ is committed to applying best agronomic practices, innovation, and efficiency in developing sustainable food products (edamame and okra).

Sitting on a 1.7 Ha area, our state-of-the-art factory has a production capacity of 8,000 tons per year and three tons per hour of frozen (IQF) products. Our products meet the rigorous quality control criteria upheld by international and Indonesian food safety bodies, including BRC, ISO 22000, Kosher, FDA, BPOM, and Halal MUI. In 2017, ANJ entered into a joint venture with AJI HK Limited to facilitate GMIT’s market expansion to Asia Pacific. In March 2021, GMIT began exports of its frozen edamame to Japan.

GMIT also produces frozen edamame (under the brand ‘Edashi’) and frozen peeled edamame for the domestic market. Edashi is available in two variants, original and salted, and can be purchased at various retailers throughout Indonesia.
